#HOLLYJOLLYREADS ๐Ÿ””| December Monthly Challenge

I am soso excited and so happy to finally share this with you guys! Making and hosting a monthly photo challenge has been something I’ve wanted to do since creating my bookstagram so for the past couple of months I’ve been working on one! This one!

HOLLYJOLLYREADS.png

I tried to make this challenge a mix of vague prompts that could be more inspo-ish and simple straightforward prompts so that there was something for everyone, be as creative (or not creative) as you want and I can’t wait to see how everyone interprets each day!

I’m going to list all the days below for accessibility and I’ll explain a little of what my idea was behind each prompt in case anyone needs some extra inspo.

Throughout the month I’ll be going through the tag and sharing some of my favourite photos so don’t forget to use the hashtag #HollyJollyReads in your posts!

Prodigy Prince | Natasha Sapienza [Semi-Spoiler Free]

PP

Prodigy Prince // Natasha Sapienza

Actual Rating: 3.5/5 โญ

I was given a free copy by the author (thank you!) in exchange for an honest review, all thoughts and opinions are my own. This review is mildly-spoilery.ย

Synopsis [From Goodreads]:

At seventeen, all Prince Nuelle had ever known was safety and peace while living in the Supreme Palace of Zephoris.ย

But one night, his older brother, Tane, defies their father by traveling to a cursed land. Now Nuelle holds the signet-ring and carries more responsibility than even Tane bore. Thrust from the palace and sent to a knight-building academy, Nuelle must discover his purpose for the entire kingdomโ€™s sake.ย

From his place of banishment, Prince Antikai has been exacting revenge through fear and rebellions. Nuelle has the potential to defeat him, but he needs the help of a powerful book and six gifted youths.ย

Summoned by Antikai, shape-shifting beasts and other enemies hunt Nuelle and the Acumen. If either is destroyed, the faithful citizens in Zephoris will perish, and darkness will rule forever.ย

Am I getting too old for YA?

OLD

Am I getting too old for YA? Is a question Iโ€™ve been asking myself a lot lately, I know that the obvious answer is no and that you should read what you like no matter your age but I canโ€™t help thinking about it. I canโ€™t help feeling like Iโ€™m slowly growing apart from the genre (is it even a genre?), that Iโ€™m too old to be reading it.

October TBR | Spooky Reads Edition

OCT

Fall is one of my favourite times of the year, I love how warm and cozy it makes me feel inside and I wanted that feeling to reflect in my tbr for this month. I also wanted my tbr to be a little bit spooky and dark in the spirit of Halloween. This should probably actually be called ‘books I maybe want to get around to’ because I can’t actually decide which ones I want to readย ๐Ÿ˜…

9/17 | September Wrap – Up

SEPT

Compared to previous months this year I’ve actually had a pretty light reading month, even though I read pretty much my whole tbr it wasn’t nearly as big as some of my others have been. As well, I have officially finished my 2017 goodreads challenge! ๐ŸŽ‰ย This is the first challenge I’ve ever done and I’m a little proud of finishing early considering that I bumped my goal up halfway through.

Before I dive into all the things I loved this month, if you want to check out what I read in August there are reviews for most of the books up on my goodreads.

The Bane Chronicles | Cassandra Clare [Semi – Spoiler Free]

BANE

The Bane Chronicles // Cassandra Clare

With Sarah Rees Brennan and Maureen Johnson

โ€œOne can give up many things for love, but should not give up oneselfโ€

ย

Actual Rating: 4/5ย โญ

Synopsis:

It’s not easy being Magnus Bane. As a warlock, he’s often called upon to fix the problems of others. His life has been long, and his loves have been many. And Magnus has a way of making sure he’s at the right place at the right – or perhaps wrong – time. The French Revolution, Prohibition, the great blackout of New York City, the first great battle between Valentine and the New York Institute … Magnus was there, and usually in the middle of it. But smuggling Marie Antoinette out of France is nothing compared to loving a vampire like Camille Belcourt – or having a first date with Alec Lightwood.

Though Magnus’s tale is far from over these stories shed a little light on his often inscrutable character. What happens when an immortal warlock goes mad? Are all Herondales as problematic as Will? (Answer: yes.) What exactly ย happened at the Hotel Dumort? How did Raphael Santiago become a vampire? What do you buy your Shadowhunter boyfriend when you’re not dating? And why was Magnus banned from Peru?

Magnus will never be able to tell all of his tales. No one would believe him. But here are eleven stories that fill in some of the blanks – stories he probably wishes had never gotten out.
