A while ago I wrote a blog post about how I felt too old for YA books and one of the main reasons – besides my literal age – I felt this way was because I could see my tastes changing, I was starting to like books teen-me would have been utterly uninterested in. But, when I took a look at the books I was starting to love I noticed a common theme: while they were all “adult” books a lot of them … still read like the YA stories I loved. So, I thought I would recommend a few of them here for anyone else whose looking to make the jump from YA to Adult.

I’m back! and with another monthly photo challenge. Making and hosting a monthly challenge last year was so fun, I loved scrolling through the tag and seeing all the photos so much that I decided to do round two! Though I’ve learned that trying to come up with an entire month’s worth of inspiring prompts is … pretty hard.
Anyway, here is #MAYIVEREAD (mayiveread .. todayiveread .. get it 😉). Read on for a full list of the prompts plus a little bit of what my idea was behind each one; it’s not as vague as I think my last challenge was but I’m still really excited to see how everyone interprets each day.

The other day I posted about Six of Crows on bookstagram because after nearly two years of owning it I still have yet to even pick it up – I like leaving my hyped books on the shelf to age like some sort of fine wine I guess. Anyway, Six of Crows got me thinking: what other popular/hyped books have I still not read despite owning them/having them on my TBR for who knows how long?

Hi! Hello! I didn’t mean to take a four-month blogging hiatus but I kind of did anyway 😅 I didn’t really have any time to work on reviews or posts for a while and then for a long while I just … didn’t want to; I love reading and talking about books but writing good reviews/posts that make sense? That’s hard. Anyway, I figured a good ole’ TBR post was the perfect was to hopefully get back into blogging and reviewing on the regular (not that I ever had a regular posting schedule before but).
Before I jumped into my reads for this month here’s a couple quick reading updates:
- I finished my 2017 reading challenge with 61/50 books read
- My goal for this year is technically 150 books but it’s currently set at 100 and I’m already 1 book behind 😪
- Current number of books reads this year: 23!
Alrighty, onto my April TBR

I am soso excited and so happy to finally share this with you guys! Making and hosting a monthly photo challenge has been something I’ve wanted to do since creating my bookstagram so for the past couple of months I’ve been working on one! This one!
I tried to make this challenge a mix of vague prompts that could be more inspo-ish and simple straightforward prompts so that there was something for everyone, be as creative (or not creative) as you want and I can’t wait to see how everyone interprets each day!
I’m going to list all the days below for accessibility and I’ll explain a little of what my idea was behind each prompt in case anyone needs some extra inspo.
Throughout the month I’ll be going through the tag and sharing some of my favourite photos so don’t forget to use the hashtag #HollyJollyReads in your posts!

Am I getting too old for YA? Is a question I’ve been asking myself a lot lately, I know that the obvious answer is no and that you should read what you like no matter your age but I can’t help thinking about it. I can’t help feeling like I’m slowly growing apart from the genre (is it even a genre?), that I’m too old to be reading it.

I love using candles in my bookstagram photos and they’re probably one of my favourite props, they give photos such a classic warm and cozy look plus they go with pretty much every theme/photo style. So, here’s a quick and easy candle DIY that’ll have your photos looking extra lived in (or spooky 👻 just in time for Halloween), perfect for the Autumn season!

I am really good at buying books, promising myself I’m going to read them right now and then letting them sit on my shelf for a year. So I thought I would share with you a few books that I’m determined to read before the year is over – hopefully this post will hold me to it!

I like to hoard books in my online TBR like a dragon hoards treasure which means it quickly becomes a small mountain of books that honestly? I’ll probably never read. I decided to go through and clear out my TBR shelf after almost half of my a little over a thousand shelved books were want-to-read’s, I ended up getting rid of almost five pages of books and doing so actually felt cathartic (well, as cathartic as clicking a little x and watching it vanish can be). So here are a few tips/things I told myself while unshelving that will hopefully help you declutter!

I’m the kind of person that doesn’t like to DNF books, any book that I technically DNF just ends up on a return-to-later shelf with the promise that I’ll pick it up again (and I never actually do), but for some odd reason DNFing a series is as easy as cutting butter for me.
So out of curiosity I went through all my shelves to see just how many series I had abandoned and I was honestly surprised on how high the number was. I think quite a few of them I’ve given up on just because there are other books I want to read more or because I completely forgot about them but there are a few that I’ve knowingly decided to DNF and I wanted to share them with you!
